I want you to think about a vivid episode from your childhood. Could be happy or sad, good or bad, just so that it’s a vivid memory. Might even be a story about you that’s been told and retold. And, the very first thing that came to mind, that’s the one I want you to think about.

Okay.

Now, with that memory, or story in mind, I want you to attach a feeling. What was your emotion in that memory, or story? And how might that have affected your life since then?

Our stories shape us.

What we experience, and how we interpret what we experience, shapes how we see the world, see ourselves, and what we’re going to do try to survive and even thrive.

Miriam’s story certainly shaped her.

In today’s talk, you will see the irony, as Pharaoh had begun a battle of wills with God Himself.

Pharaoh said throw the baby boys into the Nile.

God said so be it.

From the Nile your own daughter will bring into your home, and feed at your table, and raise at your knee, the Hebrew redeemer of the people you oppress.

Pharaoh said make the people work.

So be it, God said.

You shall pay wages to the mother of this baby, and ultimately, this people will plunder Egypt of its treasures.

  1. Hello Joanne, Am glad you asked me to share my life story with you. Jimmy is my name born in 1984 to Mr opamo peter and Mrs Jane, from a smaller village known as Butangasi,Busia district, Uganda Africa. Am a teacher by profession and a headteacher now, am married to one wife with 4 children,Glory goes to the, Lord! We are 8 siblings and am the Seventh in the lineage, however I was told my father passed on when I was 3years,while growing life became hard due to the fact that my mother could not afford any thing for us to survive! Late she left and got married again, I personally tested what is called suffering under the care of my old G.ma.who was very old and tired. When time came for sleeping at night my bed room was in the Branches of the trees, shared cold nights with snakes. Later at the age of 6years to 7 I was badly attacked by jiggers which almost finished my life but God is able. Time for school came and I think I did not have any hope! One day a man called Joseph (RIP) not my relative offered to take me to school and took care of my fees, and I was smart! My uncle now got interested and paid for my education up to the course of being a teacher. This has affected my life about an orphan child in the society, it brings to my realisation that “Some one Must ” Do something to change a life just like mine was changed. God therefore gave me a vision in 2018 to care for orphans and other needy children. In 2019 He enabled me to successfully register a cup of cold water children’s foundation international a non profit charity organization. This is the basis for me to appeal for support and giving Just because of an orphan child who needs hope. If you feel touched and God is leading you to do something please let me know.

    Regards.

  2. I was a very young child going to have my hair cut in a beauty salon. I saw these women sitting under hair dryers with cotton around their heads. I screamed and cried telling my mother that I don’t want my hair cut. The scene was too frightful and it haunted me for years. I could never see a scary movie or people injured. I was frighten to see someone in the hospital, especially, heart patients on a ventilator after surgery. Just can’t get those images out of my mind. Then one year my sister , very close to me, was seriously ill and the doctors said to our family the machines needed to be removed. By the grace of God , I was able to go into her room and be with her while the tubes were removed as she passed. He gave me the greatest peace. I have wondered if the trip to the beauty salon was a preparation of something that was going to happen in my life. Family members said it was too stressful to be in her room during this time. I didn’t want her to be alone. I love my Lord. He gives us strength and peace.
