There are four important points to consider before wading into a Bible passage in order to try to understand what it's saying and what it means, let alone to try and figure out how to live it out.
Is the Bible Trustworthy?
Does the Bible accurately represent what God has said and done, and how God thinks and feels, who God is? It is a foundational question, since everything we know about God apart from God as powerful creator, comes from the Bible.
Heavenly Stuff
This talk is about emerging as a transformed people by God's love, so that we will do everything we can to help each other through this next season.
Gospel of John: What Is It?
The Gospel of John acts as something of a love letter from God to His people, a book that has changed more lives than possibly any other book written. It presents Jesus as a man with personal warmth, intimacy, human emotions and relating to people.
The Gospel of John
The early church didnโt choose the books they wanted to put in the Bible. They eventually recognized the books that God had chosen. Christians had all along been recognizing works that were inspired by the Holy Spirit. These were, as the apostles Paul and Peter had described, โGod-breathedโ and were treated as scripture as soon as they were read.
Universal, God-Given Conscience
I was listening to a TED talk, and became electrified when I heard described five basic, foundational innate conditions all humans are born with, a sort of programming grid upon which morality is written:
Acts Wednesday: Chapter 20, Reconciliation
Godโs intent is to restore the earth and its inhabitants, and to reconcile everything to Himself. In keeping with that great mission, Paul sought to bring shalomโpeace, wholeness, communionโto the body of Christ by initiating reconciliation between Jewish and Gentile believers.
Acts Wednesday: Chapter 18, Apollos
Apollos had everything you could possibly want to be effective: he had education, talent, skill and experience. But until Apollos had the Holy Spirit, his ministry was not effective.
Has God Appointed Men as God Appointed Levites?
Surely some of you are asking why. Why would God say the Levites were to be priests? Guess what. There is an answer to that, but itโs a triggering kind of story, if you have a low tolerance for evil and violence.
The Book of Generations: Two Beginnings
And my next question to myself is how what I support reflects that truth? How much of my churchโs budget, for example, a budget I regularly contribute to, is spent on a terrific worship service Sunday morning compared to developing, sustaining, and handing on depth and breadth of relationship with our Lord? Compared to caring for our community, and our earth? What concerns our church governing board the mostโmoney? Numbers of people on a Sunday morning?
