In the present tense, it makes Johnโs statement an ongoing event, one which had been fulfilled at the cross and continued at Pentecost. But was John speaking only of the supernatural work of Christ whenever the gospel was told and of the Holy Spiritโs conviction of those who heard it by Godโs divine power? Or was John indicating there would also be a future fulfillment, one more substantial and concrete? A physical return of Christ, coming on the Pillar of Cloud, Godโs glorious Shekinah?
Minor Prophets: Zechariah, The Final Oracle
These last three chapters are Second Zechariahโs second oracle, describing the completion of Godโs plan from the beginning, from before the creation of the world. When God gave Godโs people the seven feasts described in Exodus, they were each prophetic of Godโs plan of salvation. So far, four of those feasts have been fulfilled in Christ, and chapters 12-14 reflect the fulfillment to come of the last three feasts.
