Lewis goes deep with such heady scholars as Karl Barth (1886โ1968), Jรผrgen Moltmann (1926โ2024), and Eberhard Jรผngel (1934โ2021). Now, disclaimer here, in the spirit of full disclosure. I have read very little of these theologians, just enough to get by, because as a rule, I find theoretical theology too โฆ theoretical. I have always preferred Biblical theology over systematic theology. Lewis talks about the idolatry of doctrineโas opposed to dogma, I am sure (p. 140). But, as I read more of their ideas, I found myself drawn in.
Gospel of John: His Last Breath
Why did Jesus cry out the first line of Psalm 22? I found two very different ways of understanding this moment, and it all rests on the nature of the Trinity.
Gospel of John: The Sayings of Christ
John must have been there to hear everything Jesus said, and those words must have sunk deep into Johnโs soul. Over the centuries, these words were gathered lovingly by the church to become the Seven Sayings of the Cross.
