It was the eighth day, the Sabbath of the Sabbaths, for on this day the land had become theirs, apportioned among the tribes, as foretold. Already in the distance, the temple trumpets sounded from each parapet.
If something is deemed implausible, the likelihood of you or me coming to believe it is vanishingly small. In fact, we will not find or even see what is right in front of us.
That is the challenge I want to meet. To be trustworthy in telling the truth, and then to let truth do its work, in God’s time, by God’s power, while I keep loving, and caring for, and being present with all those who will receive me.
Jesus had a rare teachable moment, the right moment, in today’s passage, for Jesus to talk about Messiah, and to teach His disciples the difference between a false reading, and a true reading of scripture.
In our lives today, you and I have to cope with much the same kinds of things that are in these chapters—meeting people’s needs, dealing with people who don’t like us or what we represent, who want to stand in the way, dealing with discord in our churches and relationships, dealing with lies, suffering, injustice, and personal injury. The list goes on.
